United 93
Albeit a bit late, I finally watched United 93. It was an exceptionally well done film. Even for someone like me who keeps the horrific events of 9/11 firmly in mind, United 93 should be required viewing for all Americans.
It shows layers of bureaucracy that were incapable of even simple communications, little to no protocols for terrorist activity and inflexibility to adjust to a new situation....like 9/11 certainly was. Bureaucracies are notoriously rife with an inability to handle situations outside of the rule books because of the stringent, rigid requirements for accountability trails. There were several brave souls on 9/11, however, who made command decisions on the fly and they were absolutely correct to do so.
Most of all, the film shows a nation broadsided, complacent and completely unprepared for the events of 9/11.
There was one gentleman on the plane who kept insisting "Let's just give them what they want and we will be fine." Sort of the battle cry of the Left.
Nice thought, and I'm sure in some alternative universe that might just be the case. But the terrorists wanted two things -- to put that plane into a building in Washington DC and create absolute havoc in the wake of the devastation.
Jihad isn't about compromise, my leftist friends. Jihadists want one result -- for all non-believers to die. Period.
Dennis Miller was on Hannity & Colmes last night and he spoke the absolute truth that even leftists cannot deny. Regardless of anyone's thoughts on Iraq -- whether you agree with it or not, Iraq is now the "salt lick" for all terrorists. Al Qaeda is still holed up in apartments, flats, houses, camps and caves in various nations the world over, even in friendly nations, but there is no doubt that there is a whole lot of concentrated evil right smack dab in Iraq.
To leave Iraq would be a devastating mistake.
Either we keep depleting their resources, finances and networks with Iraq as the base of our operations, or, if they are left to their own devices to gain strength and numbers, uninterrupted by our military, they will hit us again on our home turf with greater strength than what we can possibly imagine.
Remember that we couldn't imagine 9/11 on 9/10. If the terrorists are left to plot, recruit and gather financing rather than remain in a semi-defensive posture, what else is "the unthinkable" on their jihadist "to do" list?
The "cut and run" strategy of the Left is one that America may not recover from.
