Proof that Botox causes brains to shrink.

John Kerry going after the "Headline of the Day" award.
Still running for President armed with the old adage about
the definition of insanity. (Doing the same thing
repeatedly convinced that there will be a different result.)

Ted Kennedy. What a guy.

Kate Michelman, white courtesy phone.....

Kate, you've got some serious 'splainin' to do......

According to my sources, this column is being passed out outside the Judiciary Committee hearing room today where the Alito vote is taking place. Makes some EXCELLENT points. WOW.

Democrats don't need no stinkin' hearings!

A column over at Townhall.com.....by moi!

Happy Anniversary, Mr. President.

An appropriate reminder from our friend Chuck Muth:

REMEMBERING THE GIPPER'S 25TH ANNIVERSARY

"Our government has no power except that granted it by the people... It is my intention to curb the size and influence of the federal establishment and to demand recognition of the distinction between the powers granted to the federal government and those reserved to the states or to the people. All of us need to be reminded that the federal government did not create the states; the states created the federal government."- From Ronald Reagan's first inaugural address

Center for American Progress and Ted Kennedy. Mainstream? NOT!

Sen. Kennedy gave a speech today to the Center
for American Progress. With friends like these,
how the heck could he know anything about
"mainstream America"?

Inside info from the hallway outside of Hart 216...

Last week, there were plenty of leftist antics to keep
any blogger/reporter busy for weeks......despite media
reports of a dull hearing, the real fight was going on
outside of the hearing in Hart Senate Office Building 216.

Outside of the hearing room was a long hallway that housed
the media on one side and the sporatic line of people waiting
to get into the hearing on the other side. A vigilant group
of Capitol Police patiently and professionally managed the
sometimes chaotic environment.

Every day, we (in the pro-Alito coalition) had put together
press conferences to refute the other side's claims and pro-
actively promote the real Alito record. Each day, there was
a different theme based upon the several months of leftist
attacks as well as the day's questioning from the Senate
Judiciary Committee Democrats.

There was a media "stakeout" of multiple microphones from
television and radio outlets from across the nation as well as
newspaper reporters roaming about waiting for something
interesting to happen inside the hearing room or outside Hart
216 at the "sticks."

During the breaks, Senators from both sides of the aisle would
make a beeline for the "sticks", but the leftist Senators definitely
dominated that little game.

There was not a break that didn't begin without a Democrat
Senator expounding upon the evils of Alito's answers. (Not that
the Senators gave him much of a chance to answer. In one thirty
-minute session, Biden spoke for 24 minutes and Alito gave a
six minute answer. He might as well have said, “Enough about
me, now, what did YOU think of my last question?” Biden also
may hold a some kind of record for referring to himself once
every 12 seconds, five times each minute, for a grand total of
360 times in 70 minutes of questioning. )

The Democrat Senators were not the only group of folks who
dominated the microphones. The leftist organizations were a
talkative bunch as well.

Now, during the Roberts hearing, the battle was clearly on the
streets -- could be a cold weather factor in the Alito hearing,
except that the weather was quite nice last week. In particular,
the women's groups tried to hold rallies outside the Hart Senate
Office Building during the Roberts hearings, but to no avail.

They didn't get many leftists to show up for their "daily Supreme
Court rally" during the Roberts hearing and apparently
abandoned the SCOTUS steps all together during the Alito
hearings. Well, except for s0me group called the "Revolutionary
Communist Party, USA" that held anti-Bush signs.

At any rate, the leftists really seemed to focus their efforts on that
hallway full of media. They had tickets for the entire hearing, then
about 10-15 minutes before the break, would make a beeline for the
microphones.

Problem was, their message was always the same. Which isn't very
interesting after several breaks.

So the daily press conferences for the pro-Alito groups were a hit.

On Monday, there was one group of black Americans that was pro-
Alito. As per Senate rules, a Senator was present for the press
conference.

By the afternoon, there was a complaint filed by CBS against the
press conferences for the pro-Alito groups saying that the presence
of the Senators at these press conferences gave the pro-Alito side
of the story an unfair advantage. Huh? We were following Senate
rules, pal.

Despite the complaints from CBS, we held a press conference on
Tuesday as well. Filling the hallways to the BRIM with homeschoolers
and religious liberty activists actually caused one Capitol Hill cop to
say that she was "very uncomfortable" will all the people in the
hallway. These were children! Homeschooled children who followed
every order from the police with a dutiful "Yes, Ma'am" or "Yes, Sir!"

On Wednesday, though, you could have knocked me over with a
feather. Not just because in sheer desperation Senator Kennedy was
looking for that "gotcha" "Borking" "Clarence Thomas" moment....
it was for his gross indecency OUTSIDE of the hearing room.

There was a press conference that was scheduled to begin during the
lunch break with Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), former Attorney
General John Ashcroft, and several criminal justice types from across
the nation....including a representative from the Fraternal Order of
Police....the theme of the day was "Crime and Criminal Justice."

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PRESS CONFERENCE, right after John
Cornyn and John Ashcroft spoke, without so much as an "Excuse Me..."
Senators Schumer, Kennedy, Leahy and Durbin PUSHED their way
into the press conference and took over the microphones. All to
BLAST Alito about the Concerned Alumni of Princeton group.

Senator Kennedy EAGERLY took the microphone and two of his
staffers buzzed around him, ignoring entirely the directions of the
Capitol Hill police.

It was the most remarkable thing I have ever seen.

Had Republicans burst into a Democratic press conference, there
would have been media reports and screeches from the Left up to the
heavens.

There were staffers who were hissing in their cell phones to fellow
Dem staff members to "Find the cancelled checks" and "Do whatever
it takes to get the motion done and over here NOW...." -- all in an
effort apparently to "Stir things up....we HAVE to do it NOW..."

For the homeschoolers and the legal eagle, non-political former Alito
clerks in attendance, it was quite a lesson in the tactics of the Left.
There were looks of shock all around.

Once the Democrat Senators were done spewing their vile contempt
for Judge Alito, the Alito clerks gathered around the microphones
along with the other supporters of Alito who had demonstrated
remarkable patience throughout the pitiful, rude actions of the
Senators and they calmly, rationally won the day.

If the left is wondering why the tears of Mrs. Alito had such an
effect, it was because most of America viewed last week as a
huge waste of tax dollars and a display of cruel, sadistic behavior
at the hands of leftists both inside the Senate and out.

Americans who tuned in could catch on pretty quick that Senators
were not interested in what Alito had to say, they were interested
in their own speeches. They had made up their minds before they
had even scheduled the hearings. In fact, given the track record,
it doesn't matter who President Bush had nominated, they have
been determined to block Bush nominees since Day One.

It boils down to one misguided concept that the Left has held onto
since November, 2000. Abner Mikva, a leftist legal scholar, wrote in a
column published in early 2001 that since George W. Bush was not
rightfully elected to the Presidency, that clearly, he should not have the
right to select federal judges.

And that, along with copious amounts of fundraising dollars raised in
this cash cow issue for the left, has driven this issue amoung the leftist
groups and the Senators who max out in donations from these groups.

It would be VERY wise for these Senators to cut the puppet strings.
These extreme left wing groups, so out of touch with the majority of
Americans, are going to lead them off of a political cliff.

It's the OBSTRUCTION, stupid.

Congressman, Congressional Aides, involved in Katrina Charity Scandal! Silence in the Media!

Has anyone heard about this? Or is it "All Abramoff, All
the Time" in the media?

A Congressman, member of the Congressional Black
Caucus, is involved in a scandal involving a Hurricane
Katrina Charity, and there are crickets on this subject in
the major news media?

The Double Standard is ALIVE AND WELL!

Does ANYONE understand Sen. Kennedy's answers about his affiliation with the Owl Club????

Hiller Instinct: Club flub
WHDH TV, Boston
Air Date: 01/17/2006

You could say Senator Kennedy is caught in a club flub.

The Senator grilled Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito
on his membership in a questionable club at Princeton
University. It turns out-- Kennedy has a controversial
history at his own alma mater-- Harvard. The night team's
Andy Hiller has the scoop in tonight's Hiller instinct.

Sen. Kennedy, last week: "I think we are entitled to this
information...it deals with the fundamental issues of equality..."

Senator Kennedy led the Democratic charge against Samuel
Alito last week...focusing on a group alito joined while he was
a student at Princeton...quoting from a magazine the group
published, to prove it supported inequality:

Sen. Kennedy, last week: "People nowadays just don't seem
to know their place. Everywhere one turns, blacks and
hispanics are demanding jobs just because they're black and
hispanic."

But now Kennedy confirms he still pays dues to a men's only
club he joined when he was at Harvard--the Owl Club.

The Harvard Crimson reports that, in 1984, the University
severed ties with clubs like the Owl, citing a Federal law
championed by Kennedy:

Andy Hiller: "Are you now, or have you ever been, a
member of the Owl Club?"

Sen. Kennedy: "I joined when I...52 years ago, I was a
member of the Owl Club, which was basically a fraternal
organization."

Andy Hiller: "Are you still a member?"

Sen. Kennedy: "I'm not a member, I continue to
pay about $100." (HUH???)

Andy Hiller: "And they do not allow women in that club?"

Sen. Kennedy: "That's what I understand."

Andy Hiller: "Why would you be in a club like that?"

Sen Kennedy: "I shouldn't be and I'm going to get out of
it as fast as I can."

Kennedy offered a weak defense, that ignores the principles
of equality...and time.

Sen. Kennedy: "Harvard was not co-educational when I got
in--52 years ago--a lot of athletes got in it."

Andy Hiller: "And now you'll get out?"

Sen. Kennedy: "Yah."

Kennedy also all-but-announced today he'll vote against
Alito, but--in Washington--speculation increases Alito is
headed for the supreme court...an exclusive club Kennedy
admits he couldn't get into:

Andy Hiller: "Do you think you could be confirmed by the
judiciary committee?"

Sen. Kennedy: "Probably not...probably not."

Owls are supposed to be smart...but Ted Kennedy was
dumb to stay in this club of their's.

Continuing to pay dues to a group that doesn't allow women
...while advocating equality...defines hypocrisy.

The Senator has embarrassed himself, and his cause.

I'm Andy Hiller, and that's my instinct.

Does the Veep have "the gout"?

The Washington Times is speculating that Vice President Cheney
is suffering from "the gout"
but the White House does not want to
disclose that because it has the reputation of being a disease of
wealthy, elite, noble royalty. Horsefeathers.

My husband has "the gout" and believe me, we are hardly royalty.

Fact of the matter is, gout is very painful. When my husband goes
through an episode, he literally cannot have a sheet covering his feet.

But rather than letting the Left show how mean-spirited they are, the
White House is actually creating a story about not disclosing this whether
it is true or not. I say disclose it and let the Left look like the mean-
spirited, abusive people that they are. If the Left thinks it is a good
strategy to make fun of people who are in pain, let them. Let the chips
fall where they may.

Much better idea than to have a dozen reporters birdogging the VP,
staring at his feet, write dozens of stories speculating, bringing gout
experts on tv to analyze the VP's gait, doctor's appointments and
generally making this into a bigger story by NOT addressing it.

Wasn't it James Carville who said "when the opposition is drowning,
throw them an anvil"?

Ted Kennedy is a raging hypocrite. What a shocker.

You know, if Ted's last name weren't Kennedy, he'd be at the end of the bar
with all the other pathetic old guys in gold chains.

THE ENVELOPE PLEASE: THE HEARING WEEK AWARDS!

PEOPLE FOR THE ALITO WAY
PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - JANUARY 13, 2006

THE ENVELOPE, PLEASE……
ALITO HEARING WEEK AWARDS (www.peopleforthealitoway.com)

(WASHINGTON , DC ) – People for the Alito Waytoday released a list of awards for those Senators who truly distinguished themselves during the nomination hearing of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. Congratulations to all the winners!

Senator Joe Biden (D-DE)

“It’s All About Me” Award

Senator Joe Biden holds the record this week for asking the longest questions of the entire hearing, and that’s saying something! In one thirty-minute session, Biden spoke for 24 minutes and Alito gave a six minute answer. In other words, “Enough about me, now, what did YOU think of my last question?” Biden also may hold a some kind of record for referring to himself once every 12 seconds, five times each minute, for a grand total of 360 times in 70 minutes of questioning. The donning of the Princeton cap deserves special mention in a fleeting attempt to obtain “Visual of the Day.” Congratulations, Senator Biden!

Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA)

“A Bridge Too Far” Award

Senator Ted Kennedy truly distinguished himself this week -- poorly. His bloviating this week was pure torture – worse than water-boarding. Senator Kennedy went the extra mile by ignoring his own ethical missteps as a member of the “Owl Club”. According to Charles Hurt at the Washington Times, “Sen. Edward M. Kennedy belongs to a social club for Harvard students and alumni that was evicted from campus nearly 20 years ago after refusing to allow female members…..The club has long been reviled on campus as "sexist" and "elitist" and, in 1984, was booted from the university for violating federal anti-discrimination laws, authored by Mr. Kennedy.” Despite all of this and much, much more, Kennedy was determined to demand answers “again, and again, and again…” Senator Specter threw cold water on that idea. But for his efforts, this award is proudly conferred upon Senator Ted Kennedy. Congratulations, Senator Kennedy!

Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY)

“Groundhog Day” Award

In Schumer’s world the time clock for questions always says 20 minutes… Judge Alito keeps hearing the same question over and over and over and…if you look in the dictionary under “redundant” it says, “see redundant” (perhaps with a picture of Senator Schumer.) For being the “Energizer Bunny” of the Judiciary Committee, so determined to grind Alito into the carpet that he keeps going and going and going, this award is aptly given to Senator Charles Schumer.

Congratulations, Senator Schumer!

Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI)

“Cheesehead” Award

Senator Feingold kept coming back to his microphone diligently armed with fistfuls of speeches and sound bite attempts. Like his colleagues on the Left, he missed the mark. But Senator Feingold, as a Wisconsin Senator, has been awarded the “Cheesehead” Award -- because his arguments were like Swiss cheese: aged, rotten and full of holes. Congratulations Senator Feingold!

Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL)

“Gone With the Windbag” Award

Listen to him… enough said. Congratulations Senator Durbin!

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)

“Wilma Flintstone” Award

Senator Feinstein’s hearing performance reflected a tired, old, leftist ideology that is so “Stone Age.” She does not speak for today’s American women and her words are dust-covered relics that belong in a museum. Congratulations Senator Feinstein!

Senator Herbert Kohl (D-WI)

“Not Ready for Primetime” Award

Because he forgot to turn the page on his script and he read the same question twice. Because he forgot to turn the page on his script and he read the same question twice.

Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT)

“Sherwin Williams” Award

In a hearing week that could only be characterized as “uneventful”, this award was quite competitive. One Senator clearly distinguished himself in this field, however. Senator Patrick Leahy will receive the “Sherwin Williams Award” because Senator Leahy’s participation in the hearing was about as interesting as watching paint dry. In an unique twist, Leahy’s comments to the media characterized Judge Alito as “not forthcoming.” Perhaps Senator Leahy was watching paint dry instead of listening to Judge Alito’s cogent responses – all 700 of them or 94% of the questions asked. By comparison, Ruth Bader Ginsburg answered 74% of the questions posed to her. The numbers just don’t bear witness to Leahy’s claims. It would seem the Senator from Vermont is trying to be an overachiever and win a second award! Congratulations, Senator Leahy!

Finally, to Judge Alito, a newly minted award entitled “The Alito” for outstanding performance under fire and fidelity to constitutional principles. Apparently, in Italian, “Alito” means “breath.” Clearly, Judge Alito will be a “breath of fresh air” on the Supreme Court. “People for the Alito Way” congratulates Judge Alito for his outstanding testimony despite the best efforts of the other award winners.
