Do not surrender the amazing work done on this......

We have worked long and hard on bringing the courts around from out of control activist havens to Constitutionalist outposts. And the two SCOTUS justices are constantly mentioned a THE accomplishment of this Administration.

It's pretty funny for me to think about actually, since I was told five years ago that it couldn't be done.....that no one would care about the issue, etc. WRONG!!!

The one person beating the drum on this and the election's role in the future of judicial appts is Kurtz over at NRO:

http://corner.nationalreview.com/

Surrendering the Courts [Stanley Kurtz]
Did you catch this little article, linked on Drudge, about what’s going to happen if the Democrats take back Congress? The president would face "Democratic demands that he offer ‘mainstream’ rather than ‘right wing’ judicial nominees if he wants them confirmed."
Need I say more? How on earth are conservative principles going to be substantively advanced by killing off the Republican congress? Are we interested in proving our political purity, or in actually advancing conservative principles? What happens if Justice Stevens, already well advanced in years, should have to step down sometime in the next two years? Conservatives will have thrown away the chance to take back the Supreme Court–surrendering success in a literally decades-long political project at the very last minute. This is madness.
Wake up social conservatives. Everything you care about is at stake right now. How can you even think about staying home with the Supreme Court on the line? How does it defend or advance the principles and practices you care about to destroy our chances of getting a genuinely conservative majority on the Supreme Court? Do we take our enthusiasm from the actions of politicians, or from our knowledge of the meaning and effects of our actions in the world?Posted at 10:01 AM

United 93

Albeit a bit late, I finally watched United 93. It was an exceptionally well done film. Even for someone like me who keeps the horrific events of 9/11 firmly in mind, United 93 should be required viewing for all Americans.

It shows layers of bureaucracy that were incapable of even simple communications, little to no protocols for terrorist activity and inflexibility to adjust to a new situation....like 9/11 certainly was. Bureaucracies are notoriously rife with an inability to handle situations outside of the rule books because of the stringent, rigid requirements for accountability trails. There were several brave souls on 9/11, however, who made command decisions on the fly and they were absolutely correct to do so.

Most of all, the film shows a nation broadsided, complacent and completely unprepared for the events of 9/11.

There was one gentleman on the plane who kept insisting "Let's just give them what they want and we will be fine." Sort of the battle cry of the Left.

Nice thought, and I'm sure in some alternative universe that might just be the case. But the terrorists wanted two things -- to put that plane into a building in Washington DC and create absolute havoc in the wake of the devastation.

Jihad isn't about compromise, my leftist friends. Jihadists want one result -- for all non-believers to die. Period.

Dennis Miller was on Hannity & Colmes last night and he spoke the absolute truth that even leftists cannot deny. Regardless of anyone's thoughts on Iraq -- whether you agree with it or not, Iraq is now the "salt lick" for all terrorists. Al Qaeda is still holed up in apartments, flats, houses, camps and caves in various nations the world over, even in friendly nations, but there is no doubt that there is a whole lot of concentrated evil right smack dab in Iraq.

To leave Iraq would be a devastating mistake.

Either we keep depleting their resources, finances and networks with Iraq as the base of our operations, or, if they are left to their own devices to gain strength and numbers, uninterrupted by our military, they will hit us again on our home turf with greater strength than what we can possibly imagine.

Remember that we couldn't imagine 9/11 on 9/10. If the terrorists are left to plot, recruit and gather financing rather than remain in a semi-defensive posture, what else is "the unthinkable" on their jihadist "to do" list?

The "cut and run" strategy of the Left is one that America may not recover from.

Activist judge looks the other way. Pathetic.

Apparently those sex ed cases that libs are so hot for ain't working out so well. Here's a
gal who has two children and has no idea what causes the condition cause it happens again.

Rather than, oh, I don't know, not sleeping with someone she isn't a) married to or b) have
any thought of marrying, the chick STUPIDLY exposes herself to the problem again and
then shoots her unborn child right before birth.

An abortion? No.

Murder.

Judge Dismisses Charges Against Woman Who Killed Her Unborn Child
Pregnant Mother Shot Herself in the Stomach, Killing Her Child, Va.
Judge Rules Causing Your Own Abortion Is Not a Crime
By LILLIAN RUIZ and LARA SETRAKIAN, ABC
Law & Justice Unit
Oct. 19, 2006 — - A Virginia judge has dismissed charges today against a young woman who shot herself in order to kill her unborn child in a case that has angered anti-abortion activists.

Tammy Skinner was a poor, desperate 22-year-old with two young children and another one on the way.She said her boyfriend wouldn't pay for an abortion, so she carried her pregnancy to term.

Then she did the unthinkable.

Prosecutors say that on the morning she was scheduled to give birth, Skinner drove to an auto dealer's parking lot, took a gun, and shot herself in the belly, killing the fetus in an act of self-abortion. Skinner was charged with carrying out an illegal abortion.

Is Skinner a criminal?

Today, a Virginia judge said no.

The charges were dropped, her case dismissed.

Score another one for the trial lawyers.

Or for Rush's "KOOKS" group -- "Keep Our Kids Safe".

Let's just put kids in a bubble and keep them there until they turn 21, ok?

Memories.....misty water colored memories....of Pat Leahy as Judiciary Chairman....

Perish the thought......

This Washington Times editorial reminds us that despite judicial confirmations being neglected in the Senate for six months before this election, it is still a central issue for many voters, including disaffected conservatives and values voters.

Pat Leahy, Judiciary Committee Chairman?

Now that control of the U.S. Senate is clearly in play in the congressional midterm elections next month, it is instructive to contemplate how the federal judiciary will be affected if Democrats gain at least six seats, which would give them majority status in Congress's upper chamber. For President Bush and anybody else who espouses a traditional conservative judicial philosophy comparable to the views of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Democratic majority control of the Senate would be disastrous. The very liberal Sen. Patrick Leahy, Vermont Democrat, would return as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Mr. Leahy's first stint as Judiciary chairman was bad news for believers in a conservative judicial philosophy. In May 2001, the month President Bush announced his first batch of appellate-court nominations, including Mr. Roberts' nomination to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, Vermont Sen. Jim Jeffords bolted the Republican Party to become an independent. That decision flipped control of the Senate to Democrats and effectively installed Mr. Leahy as Judiciary chairman.

For the final 19 months of the 107th Congress, Mr. Leahy denied Mr. Roberts a hearing before his committee. Mr. Leahy's obstinance was so extraordinary that a bipartisan group of more than 150 members of the D.C. Bar, including the late Lloyd Cutler (who served as White House counsel to both Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton) and Seth Waxman (who served as Mr. Clinton's solicitor general), sent a letter to the Judiciary Committee after Mr. Roberts was renominated in January 2003. "[W]e are united in our belief that John Roberts will be an outstanding federal court of appeals judge and should be confirmed," they wrote.

Mr. Roberts was just the tip of the iceberg. Mr. Leahy denied hearings for another 11 appellate-court nominees. For Miguel Estrada, who would have been the first Hispanic judge on the D.C. appellate court, Mr. Leahy delayed a hearing for 16 months and then refused to permit a committee vote. Under Mr. Leahy's chairmanship, the Senate returned 15 appellate-court nominees after the 107th Congress adjourned. That was three times the total number of appellate nominees (five) returned after the first two years of the three previous presidents combined: Reagan (one), Bush 41 (one) and Clinton (three). Incidentally, in 1995 the newly installed Republican Senate confirmed the three appellate nominees returned by the 1993-1994 Democratic-controlled Senate.

After Republicans regained control of the Senate in the 2002 elections, Mr. Leahy became the principal architect of the unprecedented systematic filibuster campaign against appellate-court nominees. In the 108th Congress (2003-2004), Democrats successfully filibustered 10 appellate nominees; they prevailed in seven cloture votes against Mr. Estrada alone, and threatened filibusters against more than half a dozen others.

If Mr. Leahy reclaims the Judiciary gavel, it is safe to say that he will do everything possible to effectively strip President Bush of his constitutional power to appoint appellate-court judges, including any nominations to the Supreme Court.

Worthless, stupid and unbelievably galling.

So Mike from RedState.org pops down to Greensboro and decides to bash a black
conservative.

http://beltwayblogroll.nationaljournal.com
/archives/2006/10/a_redstate_plug.php

Brad Miller's ACU rating for 2005 is 0. Lifetime rating is 5.

But hey, I guess Mike knows what he's doing, right? Listening to the mainstream media, taking everyone else's word for it, not understanding quite what the dynamics are when it comes to a black conservative south of the Mason-Dixon line. Hell, why not make the leftists completely gleeful and just lynch him and get it over with?

You know, between Blackwell, Steele, Swann and yes, Robinson, people are going to look back and wonder why the hell blacks don't run in the Republican party. And boy do I have answers for them.

Truly an unbelievably STUPID maneuver. And there was no reason at all to do it.

So I guess that being the most liberal congressman south of the Mason-Dixon line is
no deterrent for an endorsement from RedState.org. Instead they chose to believe the
media, determined to destroy a black conservative and turn their nose up at Vernon
Robinson. Too damn bad they made this foolish move cause their endorsement means absolutely nothing ideologically now.

A sober anniversary....six years ago Thursday.

For Immediate Release
The White House
Office of the Press Secretary
October 12, 2006
President's Statement on Anniversary of USS Cole Attack

Six years ago, on October 12, 2000, al Qaida attacked the USS Cole, a U.S. Navy warship refueling in Aden harbor in Yemen. This terrorist attack killed seventeen sailors and injured many others, leaving the victims' loved ones and our Nation to mourn our collective loss.
On the sixth anniversary of this attack, we pause to remember those brave servicemen and women whose lives were cut short by this act of terrorism and to give thanks to the brave crew whose heroic actions saved their ship and fellow shipmates.

With the men we believe to be the key architects of that attack now in custody, this anniversary should serve to renew America's dedication to bring terrorists to justice and our gratitude to those men and women of the U.S. Government serving abroad who take great risks in protecting America.

Six years ago, our Nation was tested by terrorism. Terrorists continue to be an active threat to our Nation, but we are responding resolutely and forcefully. On this solemn anniversary, we rededicate ourselves to the fight against the enemies of humanity, offer our prayers and condolences to the families of the Cole victims, and offer thanks to the men and women of our Navy who protect our country and promote peace and freedom around the world.

"The List"

Interesting. The leftists really do believe the stereotypes they have created...

See Byron York's piece:
http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=YzM4OGRmNTljNWVkZDc2MDQ3NmRkYzVjM2ZjODIzNjI=

Goes to show you just how completely off-base they are. "The List" would
not hold any relevance to these pro-family organizations. They are not in the
business of outing people. Apparently the Left is, however.

Why is gay-bashing sanctioned if it is leftists doing the bashing to gay Republicans?
Sounds pretty similar to the unbelievably racist comments that eminate from lunatic
corners of the left against black Republicans.

The ideological litmus test seems to be an excuse for them to abuse whomever they
please.

The CREW Dossier (partial)

Center for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington

www.citizensforethics.org

From http://www.citizensforethics.org/about/index.php
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington targets government officials who sacrifice the common good to special interests. We will help Americans use litigation to shine a light on those who betray the public trust:
If a public official misuses his position to demand campaign contributions, CREW will find creative ways to seek civil remedies.
If a witness is threatened or punished because she reported official misconduct, CREW will fight back on behalf of the witness — including representing that individual in court if necessary.
If a government agency withholds information to which the public is entitled, CREW will go to court to enforce legal rules regarding disclosure.
If a group libels an honest public servant, CREW will help the victim defend his reputation.
CREW will seize opportunities like these, bringing high-impact legal actions. The majority of our cases will focus on real people and their stories about the lack of government integrity. Not only do these people need and deserve our support, their stories can serve as powerful tools to seize public attention and move public opinion. CREW will work with the press, government investigators, and other public interest groups to make sure that these peoples' stories are heard. In the process, CREW will build a non-partisan investigative alliance that transcends specific issues. Our aim is to encourage officials to be open about their values and to act based upon their honest and best assessment of the public interest.
As we do this, over time CREW will develop a network of public interest groups, sympathetic government investigators and media contacts — a broader, more mainstream version of the conservative coalition that was so effective in the 90's. We will work with that network to focus public attention on government integrity and to educate the public about dishonest or disingenuous government officials. If the past decade is any indication, this network can have a substantial impact on public opinion.

Sickest list of all time

This is the kind of story that makes me nuts:

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/10/03/D8KHAOB00.html

One gal talks about her abortion because her child had Downs syndrome. She's 42 and trying for the "perfect" baby now. Sure, honey. Kill the kid with Downs. Good going.

Another gal talks about how she had her abortion because she wanted a future. Pretty simple, sweetie. Just say no. When you say no, you don't have to worry about consequences for your actions. That is where the control in your life lies....not in the consequence phase, but in the decision phase.....when you say yes or no.

When will these women wake up to the folly of the feminist cash machine? They WANT you to have abortions, ladies. They just cloke it in language of empowerment.

But there is NOTHING empowering about your legs in the stirrups, tears running down your cheeks as the life, LITERALLY is sucked out of you.

No doubt parenthood is hard. So is being left by that boy who claimed to love you so he could get in your pants. So is the physical and spiritual trauma of the abortion itself. All are consequences of one completely thoughtless act in a moment of passion that in the end, just isn't worth it.

But to be proud of the death of their children? Sick stuff.

Just here to do the jobs that Americans won't do....

WHATEVER IT TAKES
"According to Heather Mac Donald, perhaps the foremost expert on illegal aliens and crime, fully 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens, and up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants are for illegal aliens as well."
